9th Nov 2002
The First Team won their first league match of the season this afternoon, beating 3rd-place Standon and Puckeridge 1-0 thanks to a Pete Costen penalty. The Reserves also gained a well-earned point against a strong Hinton Reserves, despite being 1-0 down at half time.
Buntingford Town were rewarded with a 1-0 victory over local rivals Standon & Puckeridge this afternoon.
The team have performed well in recent weeks and a win is long overdue.
Tom Fulk rounded off the day with a penalty save as the game approached the full time whistle - but was dismayed to find that the Referee had awarded a retake.
However, he stood his ground, and the Standon striker missed the target completely to present Town with the 3 points.
Just look at the smile on Manager Richard Daly's face!
It was backs-to-the-wall for the Reserves as they struggled in the first 35 minutes against a physical and fit Hinton Reserves, but survived the onslaught to go in only 1 goal down at half-time.
It was Buntingford all the way in the second half though, and a Tom Davey break and shot led to a simple tap-in for Chris Page to give the home team a well-earned point.
