Hatfield Utd v First Team, 04 Dec 2021 (League)
Buntingford Won 1-0
Dave McCann in the thick of the action
Buntingford welcomed their new signing, goalkeeper Georgio Cozzi, and visited Hatfield with confidence high following recent results since last playing Hatfield back in November which ended as a 2-2 draw.
The game was played in very strong winds which Buntingford played against in the first half; the team found it hard going trying to build, only to have play broken up by a physical Hatfield team and the strong wind that kept the majority of the possession in the Buntingford half.
Very few chances were created with the best chances coming from the home team.
Buntingford however did make a few chances which one was the best of the half only for Mc Cann to blast over the bar.
The hosts picked up two yellow cards on some crude challenges and the worst being on Reid in which he was lucky not to have had a more serious outcome than just a bruised ankle.
The score remained level, 0-0, at half time.
The second half was a far better performance with the wind in Buntingford’s favor and Town made early chances only to be denied by a string of fine saves by the host ‘keeper.
Buntingford eventually went ahead after 58 mins following a fine build up through the central midfield and with Collins put through, and with some desperate defending, the ball finally broke to Lovegrove who scored with confidence making it two goals in two games for the first team.
Jack Bishop returns from suspension
The hosts tried to catch Buntingford on the break but were kept at bay by some excellent work from Buntingford’s defence .
McCann picked up a needless yellow following a shirt pull and was lucky not to have received a red following a clumsy tackle.
On 60 Min Carter was replaced by the returning Bishop following his sending off at Standon and Puckeridge, and 5 minutes later McCann was replaced by Hewer, his first run-out for the first team.
The hosts pressed hard in the last 20 min earning a string of corners which was comfortably dealt with by Cozzi.
With 15 min left Langley replaced Collins who had worked his socks of leading the Buntingford attack, and, with only 11 minutes to go, the hosts were reduced to ten men following a sin bin.
Buntingford saw out the rest of the match after a very hard-fought contest and deserved the three points.
MOTM – George Lovegrove, a constant menace for the Hatfield defence.
