First Team v Oracle Components, 27 Nov 2021 (League)
Buntingford Won 3-0
And excellent performance from Michael Carter
Buntingford hosted Oracle who are third in the league with Buntingford forth, Oracle with a fine record of only losing three points due to one loss in September so far this season.
Buntingford squad was weakened due to a number of players suspended /injuries and three players isolating due to Covid.
We welcome Lovegove, Antonio and Burgum from the Reserve team making their first outing for the first team.
Buntingford started strongly and dominated the early stages and having the majority of possession.
The breakthrough from the home side was achieved after 10mins from a through ball that split the opposition defence with a fine ball from Owen; Collins latched onto the ball and had plenty to do as the opposition defence recovered, and drove into the box from the right into the penalty box and was brought down – penalty!
The spot-kick was calmly converted by Owen.
A first-team outing for Westie
Buntingford continued to dominate and the opposition defence was caught out again on 20 mins with a spitting pass that found Lovegrove in on goal and, with the goalkeeper advancing, he squared the ball for Fusco to slot home; 2-0 to Town!
Oracle mounted a few attacks and forced a number of corners that the home defence comfortably dealt with.
Buntingford again dominated the rest of the half and made it 3-0 on 43 mins with Lovegrove slotting home after a pass from Fusco who returned the earlier complement.
Buntingford had a number of chances to increase the lead with a free kick from Owen and a number of efforts that were not converted, but the score remained 3-0 to the home side at the interval.
The second half commenced with the opposition showing a greater urgency to make a comeback in the game, which flowed back and forth with both sides creating chances without converting.
Buntingford made their first substitution after 60 mins with West coming on for Carter who had an excellent match in midfield.
Man of the Match Antonio Fusco
The remainder of the half saw both sides come close with Owen hitting the crossbar from a free-kick and Collins narrowly missing with a lob/shot.
The opposition brought the best out of the Buntingford Keeper White after he got his finger tips to an excellent strike that hit the post and ended up across goal to be cleared by the Buntingford skipper Prouton, who had an excellent game.
Further changes by the home side were made on 83 min with Antonio replacing the very impressive debut from Lovegrove who constantly terrorized the opposition defence and, Rutter replacing Welch on 90 mins when Welch picked up a slight knock.
The game ended 3-0 to the home side which was a very much deserved win following many fine performances throughout.
MOTM could have been awarded to a number of players but for his shear work-rate throughout the game it goes to Fusco.
