First Team Victors in Final Game
30th Apr 2017
Yesterday saw Town's First Team play their final match of the season, a home encounter against Standon & Puckeridge.
Usually a feisty affair, the large crowd was not disappointed as they witnessed a highly competitive match.
Leading 1-0 at half time, Buntingford went 2-0 up early in the second half.
A goal from Standon 20 minutes from time guaranteed a thrilling finish, and a fine save by Town's 'keeper Sam Chester in the closing moments secured all 3 points for the home side.
Buntingford last beat Standon & Puckeridge in 2007 during the match which followed the departure of Paul Attfield to Royston Town; coincidentally, yesterday's referee, Jorden Gibson, was Buntingford's goalkeeper during the 3-2 victory.
Following the match, and their 1-year tenure, Ross Barker and Jake Tyler stepped down as a management team, meaning that we will be on the lookout for new incumbents for the 2017/18 season.
The club would like to thank both of them for their efforts this season, and we would also like to thank our players for their support to both Ross and Jake.
Town's Reserves we also in action yesterday; yet again, the final score was 2-1, but unfortunately it was Sandridge Rovers who were the victors, with Danny Lane scoring Town's lone goal.
There will be a chance for revenge next week though, when Sandridge visit Buntingford next weekend!
