Aubrey Cup Exit..
1st Mar 2011
Town's First Team exited this season's Aubrey Cup competition on Saturday, going out at the Quarter Final stage.
Beaten 4-1 by a strong Baldock Letchworth Town side from the HSCL Premier Division, the team played much better than the scoreline would suggest.
Caught cold, Buntingford went a goal down inside the first minute, but despite great pressure from the opposition Buntingford's defence fought well, and held out until 5 minutes before the half-time whistle when Baldock scored a second.
Buntingford came out of the blocks quickly at the start of the second half and Jamie Babbage pulled a goal back within minutes.
The game then ebbed and flowed, with Buntingford giving as good as they got in a highly charged and competitive match.
Unfortunately for Buntingford, two players received their marching orders during the latter stages of the game, one for a second yellow card and the other for dissent; 9 men were no match for this strong Baldock side who eventually ran out as victors.
The Reserves' match was yet again called off due to waterlogging; we all are hoping that Saturday's home Reserve Cup fixture will finally go ahead.
The Veterans were in action on Sunday, and bounced back from last weekend's Veterans' Cup exit by beating Litlington Vets 4-1, with a brace apiece from James Neill and Mark Ward.
