Not The Best Of Weekends.
23rd Feb 2009
It was a weekend of goals, mostly in the wrong direction, as all three of Town's teams were in action again.
The fact that the First Team had not played for a month went some way to explaining a poor performance against Standon & Puckeridge during which the side failed to get out of first gear, exhibiting an uncharacteristic lack of cohesion in all areas of the pitch.
With the home side 4-0 down at half time the second half performance appeared to be more focussed until a dubious penalty was awarded; heads were now fully down and the vistors seemed to be able to score at will against a demoralised Buntingford side.
The final score, a 9-0 drubbing, was an experience none of the players enjoyed and they will need to dig deep and play with more conviction when they face London Lions later this week.
The Reserves, who travelled to Bovingdon with a weakened side, fared little better, going down 6-1, with Louis Gilbert scoring the visitors' lone goal.
The Vets had a chance to spare the club's blushes on Sunday and looked like doing so, comfortably leading 3-1 midway through the first half; however, by half time Wormley had levelled the score and then led 6-3 with 20 minutes of the match remaining.
Town again took the ascendancy but only managed to score 2 of the 3 goals required to level the match before the full time whistle.
