On Saturday 21st July Buntingford Town manager Paul Attfield will take the club's youth team to defend the Dana Cup in Denmark.
Town won the prestigious tournament last season, the world's third largest football tournament, and from Tuesday 24th July over seventy under 18 team's from all over the world will fight for the trophy.
Whilst Attfield will have been sunning himself abroad for the preceding 4 weeks the 19 player squad have been undergoing a vigorous 6 week training programme led by Neil and John Bitting to get them into tip, top shape for the trip.
Attfield commented "I have only seen the lads train once in their trying programme but they all seem very hungry to defend this trophy and the talent, ability and attitude will without question give us an excellent opportunity to defend this trophy.
There could be a tough 8 game programme but most of the players have survived this trip before and know what it takes to do well in difficult circumstances - that will be a big asset".
The draw for the Dana Cup can be seen on their official web site, and, with the group stages already drawn, Town will play 3 Norwegian teams over two days to decide the group winners and from there the Thursday, Friday and Saturday will all be nail-biting knock out games.
Town progressed to the final via two penalty shoot out victories last year and Attfield will be hoping for more comfortable score lines to relax any collective nerves should they progress.
Keep up to date with events on Town’s web site as the team progresses through the competition.
